REVENGE
Revenge is defined as the
action of hurting or harming someone in return for an injury or wrong suffered
at his hands.
Some common synonyms of revenge are : vengeance, retribution, retaliation, and
reprisal.
The policy of retaliation is not
approved by many religions. Eye for an eye and tit for tat are more admirable
traits in a great man.
In many cases, revenge is unnecessary.
Forgiveness may prove to be much better and quite harmless to the person who does
not resort to revenge.
A significant quote says: While
seeking revenge, dig two graves – one for yourself.
Abstention from revenge is not
cowardice. It is a better form of courage and the best way to make your enemy realize
his act violence.
The American theologian John M. Mason
(1770-1829) said that a spirit of revenge is the very spirit of the devil; than
which nothing makes a man more like him, and nothing can be more opposite to the temper
Christianity was designed to promote.
He adds: If your revenge be not satisfied, it
will give you torment now; if it be, it will give you greater hereafter.
According to him: none is a greater self-tormentor than a malicious and
revengeful man, who turns the poison of his own temper in upon himself.
Revenge is rightly compared to a boomerang. Although for a time it flies
in the direction in which it is hurried, it takes a sudden curve, and,
returning, hits your own head the heaviest blow of all.
To conclude, look at this quote:
Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948 ) strongly advocated for non-violence (ahimsa) and
forgiveness over revenge. He believed that revenge was a destructive act that
perpetuated violence and did not lead to lasting peace, Instead, he championed
the power of non-violent resistance and the ability of truth to ultimately prevail.
