BETTER PEACE THAN WAR
Peace sustains life, war destroys it.
Given a choice, always prefer peace to war. Peace is prosperity, war is
adversity; the former is joy and delight
; the latter is gloom and sorrow.
The English poet Alfred Lord
Tennyson (1809-1892) said in the poem “Ring out, Wild Bells”, published in
1850:
Ring out the want, the care, the sin,
The
faithless coldness of the times;
Ring
out, ring out my mournful rhymes,
But
ring the fuller minstrel in.
Ring out false pride in place and
blood,
The
civic slander and the spite;
Ring
in the love of truth and right,
Ring
in the common love of good.
Ring
out old shapes of foul disease;
Ring
out the narrowing lust of gold;
Ring
out the thousand wars of old,
Ring
in the thousand years of peace.
According to a number of intelligent,
wise, noble and sagacious thinkers --- war is horrible, vulgar, barbaric,
sinful, wicked, vicious, ruinous, and hateful to God.
The
English prolific writer H. G. Wells (1866-1946) believed ----Militarism and
warfare are childish things, if they are not more horrible than anything
childish can be. They must become things of the past.
To
conclude, here is a famous quote: The soldier, above all other people, prays for
peace, for he must suffer and bear the deepest wounds and scars of war.
