IN PRAISE OF
GOD
Poets all over the world have written hymns and prayers in
praise of God who has created the universe and everything we find therein.
A hymn is defined as a psalm, anthem, carol, religious song,
song of praise, or a spiritual chant.
What follows is a hymn written by the Anglo-Irish poet Cecil
Frances Alexander. She was born in April 1818 in Dublin, Ireland , and died at
Londonderry in United Kingdom on 12 October 1895.
The title of the hymn for which she earned a lot of fame and appreciation
is “All Things Bright And Beautiful”. It has a universal appeal, especially for
children whom it tells what a unique creator God is.
Here is the full text of the aforesaid hymn.
All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all.
Each little flower that opens,
Each little bird that sings,
He made their glowing colours
He made their tiny wings.
The purple-headed mountain,
The river running by,
The sunset, and the morning
That brightens up the sky,
The cold wind in the winter,
The pleasant summer sun,
The ripe fruits in the garden,
He made them every one.
The tall trees in the greenwood,
The meadows where we play,
The rushes by the water,
We gather every day.
He gave eyes to see them,
And lips that we might tell
How great is God Almighty,
Who has made all things well.
