CHARITY
In religion charity is one of the seven
great virtues. It means helping those people
who are in need of some kind of voluntary help. It is not giving help and taking it in return .In
fact, it is voluntary giving such as money, food, goods, time, etc; as a
matter of goodwill, without expecting personal gain.
Unselfish assistance, donation,
contribution, gift, endowment, philanthropy, benefaction and alms- giving can be
termed as good as charity.
Charitable persons are liberal,
helpful, generous, gracious, sympathetic, kind-hearted, benevolent,
humanitarian, magnanimous,, large-hearted, bountiful, etc.
The Greek poet Homer (Born around
the 8th century BCE) said empathetically (understanding and sharing the feelings of another) : The charity that is
a trifle to us can be precious to others.
Here are some famous thoughts on
charity:
1.
Let
the man who has and doesn’t give break his neck and cease to live.
2.
Let
him who gives without a care gather rubies from the air.
3.
What
we frankly give, forever is our own.
4.
As
the purse is emptied the heart is filled.
5.
That
charity which longs to publish itself, ceases to be charity.
6.
This
only is charity, to do all, all that we can.
7.
Charity
deals with symptoms instead of causes.
8.
Charity
gives itself rich; covetousness hoards itself poor….. German proverb.
9.
Defer
not charities till death.
10.
The charities that soothe, and heal, and
bless, lie scattered at the feet of men like flowers.---English poet William
Wordsworth (1770-1850).
