DESIRES
There is a difference between need
and desire. Water is need, wine is desire. Both fulfil thirst. But while one is
good and indispensable; the other is wicked and non-essential.
Religions differentiate between good
and bad desires. Good ones like food and
some shelter are necessary for survival; but gluttony and desire for a huge
palace are superfluous.
Religious leaders in Hinduism consider
desires as essential for life but declare self-centered lusty desires as the
root cause of suffering. Christianity condemns selfish passions which pull us away
from God. Buddhism considers craving as the primary cause of suffering and
advises for the extinguishment of desires through meditation. Islam condemns
self-made desires. Almost all religions
and faiths recommend spiritual desires leading to the love of GOD and escape
from worldly cravings. Look at the following thoughts on desires.
1.
In
moderating not in satisfying desires, lies peace.
2.
A wise man desires no more than what he may
get justly, use soberly, distribute cheerfully, and leave contentedly.
3.
The
thirst of desire is never filled, nor fully satisfied.
4.
Some desire is necessary to keep life in
motion; he whose real wants are supplied, must admit those of fancy.
5.
Where
necessity ends, desire and curiosity begin; no sooner are we supplied with everything nature can demand, than we sit down to contrive
artificial appetites.
To conclude: : A famous quote: “The
will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential…these
are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence. “
