SOME
THOUGHTS ON FLOWERS
Flowers are the most beautiful creations
of nature. If they were not there, the world could not be comparable with a
garden. It would have been a desolate
desert unworthy of living in.
Most of the flowers are delicate, fragrant,
colourful, decorative and enchanting.
A few kinds of flowers are ----Red Rose,
White Rose, Lily, Daffodil, Narcissus, Marigold, Jasmine, Lavender Rosemary and
Bluebell.
The rose is the queen of flowers.
Symbolically, roses are associated
with love, beauty, and elegance. They are the first preference for celebrations
and gifts.
The rose is known to hold a
prominent place in many cultures. It is frequently featured in art and
literature. The phrase‘bed of roses’ means a comfortable situation and life is regarded
not as a bed of roses but of thorns.
Given below are some popular thoughts on flowers.
1.Flowers
are the sweetest things that ever God made and forgot to put a soul into. -----H.W.Beecher,
American clergy (1813-87).
2. What a
desolate place would be a world without flowers? It would be a face without a
smile; a feast without a welcome. Are not flowers the stars of the earth? And
are not our stars the flowers of heaven.----Mrs. Clara Lucas Balfour, English
temperance leader (1851-82).
3. Flowers are
love’s truest language.---P. Benjamin, American editor (1809-64).
4. Your
voiceless lips,, O , flowers are living preachers --- each cup a pulpit, and
each leaf a book.---Horace Smith, English author (1779=1849).
5. To
cultivate a garden is to walk with God. ----Christian Nestell Bovee, American
author (1820-1904).
Flowers are the
loveliest companions of poets like William Wordsworth (1770-1850). This is what he says in his poem: Daffodils:
I gazed –and gazed ---but little
thought
What wealth the show to me had
brought.
For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure
fills,
And dances with daffodils
……
To conclude: Even a few moments with
flowers are better than days and months with thorns.
