UNITY
“Unity” is union, alliance, accord, coalition,
harmony, unanimity, cooperation, solidarity, un-dividedness, etc.
Some famous quotes are as follows:
*By uniting we stand; by dividing we
fall.---John Dickinson, American statesman 1732-1808
*Men’s hearts ought not to be set
against one another, but set with one another, and all against evil
only.----Thomas Carlyle, Scottish essayist and historian (1795-1881) .
*Union does everything when it is
perfect. It satisfies desires, simplifies needs, foresees the wishes, and
becomes a constant fortune. ---French author, Etienne Pivert de Senancour (1770-1846).
*The multitude which does not reduce
itself to unity is confusion; the unity which does not depend upon the
multitude is tyranny. ---French mathematician and philosopher Blaise Pascal (1623-62).
It
is unfortunate that we have today a divided world. There are many states,
nations, religious beliefs, political policies, life-styles, social outlooks, , faiths and creeds,
theories and philosophies.
Political
parties are at loggerheads. Different parties in the same countries behave like
bitter strangers. There are defections and disloyalties in almost every
political party.
The
values of peace, harmony, and co-operation are declining. Weapons, not
dialogues, are becoming more effective in settling disputes.
God,
let me say, did not expect such disharmony and selfishness in human beings.
Togetherness and mutual cooperation was His hope which has been belied.
The
Indian Yogi Sri Aurobindo (1872-1950) said in his pamphlet The Superman (1920) : All error, like all evil, is born of a
division in the indivisible. Because God has a myriad aspects. Mind breaks up
His unity; it creates a violent opposition and vain attempt at mutual exclusion
in the united family of the Ideas and Powers that are convergently busy with
the universe.
Sri
Aurobindo does not believe in aloneness. According to him even the wave is more
than itself; for that too has behind it the tramp of the whole measureless
ocean of Force and Time.
Finally,
this famous quote: Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win
championships.---Michael Jordan, American
businessman and baseball player, (Born 17 February 1963).
